Nostalgia
Today at work the computers were down -- well, the network was down and that at a large law firm means that email, faxes, time entry, word processing etc. were not working (i.e. everything but the calendar). Nobody quite knew what to do until they figured out that the network was working on the 21st floor -- in the room where the computer people work on the computers. So they set up a bunch of computers in there and the lawyers & secretaries all worked (7 at a time) -- just like kids in a computer lab!!! I made that remark to four attorneys who were squeezed in practically shoulder to shoulder and they seemed to get nostalgic. Anyway, the whole thing made the day somewhat fun (like lawyer camp or something) until they got the network back on line at about 2:30.
Thursday night I went out to Knoxville's Sundown in the City where they have free concerts downtown. I went with Cissie, the receptionist at Baker Donelson and we had a helluva time. Well, actually it was just an alright time. The concert was fun, and the company was good, but then we went to a really crappy meat market bar. Yes, there was dancing, but it wasn't the type I prefer. Plus, it made me miss dancing with the Quincy ladies and my roomies from college. QL - don't forget our date with VIVID.
In the meantime, I'm hear listening to my CD of Showboat. Scary? Yes, but every time I don't act or direct for awhile I end up listening to CDs of musicals and singing along. Crazy? Perhaps...but at least I know that means I got to get myself on the audition market or directing market as soon as I get to Cornell.

Yikes! I got back from MA yesterday and I still haven't recovered. Wedding madness was fabulous, but exhausting! And after that, I drove to the Cape and spent time with my husband of one year! In a way, I can't believe it's been a year and in another way it seems that it's been a lot longer! At any rate, we enjoyed celebrating our anniversary -- we even ate lunch at the Red Lion. Then later that night we saw Pirates (um...for myself, that was the second showing -- savvy?). Monday morning we flew back to Knoxville and today I worked at the law firm -- which now is BDBCB instead of BDBC (merger). In my opinion, the name is far too long: Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz. And yes, that is what the receptionist has to say when she answers the phone.
Anyway, back to Becky's wedding. I must say that Becky looked exactly like a princess. -- Oh Magic Stick dancing hiatus!

Why am I up right now? I should be going to bed, but instead I'm reading blogs and writing my own -- I want to get up at 6 for godsakes!!!
Tonight was Becky's bachelorette party and I must say I had loads of fun. Granted, dancing didn't happen but all the same we went to several places, talked, ate, played pool, were subjected to only minimal being hit on and generally had a night of girlie fun. What more can you ask for in a bachelorette party?
Tomorrow I get a manicure, go to see Pirates, pick up my dress and help Becky make some programs. What a treat. I feel like I'm getting married without all the stress! It's nice to be the MOH.

As most of you know, or all of you, I am now in Massachusetts. I flew over on a Delta "Song" plane. Really, I ended up with a Song plane because they had an equipment change. The plane was either new or newly redone -- I mean, everyone had to fish their seatbelts out from under the seats -- no one had ever sat there before! And the colors were CRRRAZY. I know that I didn't fully experience the Song because the flight attendants kept alluding to the fabulous things that Song flights have to offer. Of course, we were not subjected to such wonders because of the "sudden" equipment change. I will say that for all the colors, craziness, and funny flight attendants, we were all still packed in like sardines.
I'm supposed to go to CT tomorrow, but I can't seem to get in touch with Lucy. Where is the Lucy?
I come back on Tue for an appt with the dentist and for BECKY'S LAST DAY OF DISCO -- whoohoo.

ooooooooo
I picked up my glasses today and I drove home with them on. Right now, I find them deliciously exciting but I'm sure they'll become a pain in the ass once the new-new's are over.
After the glasses pick-up, I purchased Gangs of New York. Ah! What an incredible movie. I've already watched several of the featurettes, and I got to admit, that they are not nearly as exciting as some featurettes can be. In fact, the one where they walk around the set and tour it is downright boring. On the good side, the one on the history behind the film is pretty good -- and the movie itself continues to blow me away.
Fabulous though these things are -- I'm suffering from a terrible haircut. I liked it for approximately one week. Tony the hairdresser, why have you forsaken me? Why did you insist upon controlled chaos? I long for another haircut. I'll get one next Monday from Lucy...but the real question is, can I last that long without hauling out mad barrettes and headbands? Probably not.
Maura -- haven't you seen eXistenZ? How can you dis' the Cronenberg?

Ahhh...yesterday I got a lovely hour massage. It was simply fabulous and it made me wish that I got massages more often -- but sadly, if I spent my money on massages, I probably would not be able to buy much else. This was my Valentine's day present and between my traveling, Mike's traveling and my mole removal, this was the first time we could do it. Ahhhh.
Another fabulous thing that happened this weekend was that a fairly good classic rock station switched suddenly to a Hip Hop station -- and I mean all of a sudden like they were having their normal morning show and playing classic rock tunes in the morning; then without word, they switched to hip hop at night. Right now they are playing 10,000 hip hop tunes in a row without commercials. Pretty fantastic, ay?
Sadly, there was no time for movies this weekend. I'm going to have to make up for that next week when I go to MA. My dad and Chris already have me slated to see The Matrix Reloaded at an IMAX theatre. Plus, you know I'll be seeing Pirates of the Carribean. Oh yes. And I'm sure you also know that I'll be picking up my reserved copy of Gangs of NY from Borders on Tue. Mike won't be around, but I can asure you that I will watch as much documentary footage as I can (+ the film) before I leave for MA.
Oh, Magic Stick -- gotta go.

I giv'm the baddest shit
I'm so confused. Blogger has changed the way I post. So far I think I like it better, but I guess I'll have to wait to see how the posting works.
Today was the last day at my HORRIBLE JOB at the University of Tennessee. I decided that this job rates 2nd worst on the Megan Shea scale of worst jobs ever. Note the rankings below:
1. Norwood Marine -- My boss didn't call me by my name. He called me "the girl" and would say to people "have the girl" do it instead of asking me to do something. He also dropped his dirty diapers in the small office trash basket near my desk. The older lady who worked next to me was nice, but she chain-smoked (NO EXAGGERATION) and she sat at the desk next to mine -- the breeze from the door would blow the smoke across my desk (NO EXAGGERATION!!!). Plus, people would call and panic about their boats.
2. Univ. of TN -- It seems like a good deal at first, but I don't get a place to work (like a desk) until 4 weeks into the job. Then I'm given THE SLOWEST computer and I'm supposed to do web and brochure design? The women in the office are so mean to me that they make me cry at work on at least two occasions. One of the lovely things they accomplish is to completely prevent me from doing the half-finished web design -- the main thing I was hired for. As a result, I have nothing to do at my job and have no hours and can't work. Plus, I design brochures and they never get printed. On top of it all, I do it in an office next to some sort of venting system that blows carbon monoxide inside it. And, in the summer, if I turn on the air conditioner, brown things (little clumps of dirt or some unknown substance) spit out onto my desk and computer. And, my voicemail gets mysteriously shut off AND my internet stops working.
3. PlastiLine - I work for the company that makes those light up signs for Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonald's, Car Dealers, etc. I work in a trailer. No other explanation necessary.
4. NYNEX - I work as a telemarketer. I call up people who hate telemarketers with a passion and I attempt to sign them up for services with NYNEX. Thankfully, David from Colby is there to share my misery. I wonder whatever happened to him!?!
5. USTelecenter - Telemarketing again. I attempt to get people to sign contracts with Bell Atlantic with a $1,000 termination fee.
6. The Law Offices of Ronald A. Martignetti - Jeep boss. (cheap boss) My boss would send me home early without pay. He also decided that I was good enough to take on the work of the secretary of the other office when she went on vaca. Since she worked for another law firm, they offered to pay half my salary -- yet no raise was offered to me. Jeep boss.
That's it for the list of worst jobs. Note the one's that didn't make it: teaching at KU (obviously! this was fabuloso!!!), The Discovery Channel Store, Baker Donelson, Bingham Dana, Cummings & Lockwood, Austin Arts Center, Trinity College bookstore, acting in the Connecticut Shakespeare Festival, Camp Thayer, and the horse stable (if that counts).
Whew, does anyone else think I need a drink?

JERKS. They took my chocolate entry away. It even included a dancing hiatus for Magic Stick. But it's not worth rewriting now. The moment is gone and my entry is gone forever.
I will recap my movie today though. Mike and I spent three wonderful hours watching Gangs of New York. And as I said in my now defunct entry, the movie leaves me SPEECHLESS -- it is that good.
Oooo, I also saw Far From Heaven this weekend. My comments on that -- if you don't like fifties' melodrama, then the film will definitely leave you, ah, far from heaven. And I'm sorry Mr. Myers, but I'm not a fan of fifties melodrama. Do I think the movie has its place? Yes. Did I think that it was well done? Yes. But I personally just don't enjoy that style of film.
OK, now I really must return to my Greek.

Today is a new day for Megan Shea. Well, OK, technically yesterday. Why? Because I got glasses. The years of 20/15 vision have passed -- perhaps because I haven't been eating as many carrots, perhaps because I've stared at too many computers at work with no glare screens (note that the beautiful iMac at home does have a glare screen). So now I have glasses that I don't have to wear all the time *knock on wood*. I am a bit disappointed, but I've always thought that glasses are sexy. Well, most glasses.
And what kind did I choose? A pair of Ralph Lauren Tortois shell. Adios.

Just fifteen minutes ago, I was listening to bluegrass and loving it. Then, of course, at 10 the obligatory classical music came on. Why public radio station of the University of Tennessee? Why do you limit yourself to one hour of bluegrass per week when that is the music of this part of the world? Such a disgrace.

My goodness! How could I forget to blog the lovely thing I did last weekend. Ahhh! I saw Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers at the Dollar theatre. How fabulous. There is something so satisfying about seeing the Ents destroy Isengard -- I think it's especially the smushing of the orcs. SQUASH! Plus, seeing the movie just made me want the 3rd one even more. Oh god, the greatest battles, Eowyn fighting, more Aragorn, more Frodo -- ooooo I long for it.
This weekend, however, Two Towers will not be at the Dollar theatre. On the good side, Gangs of New York will. I have been waiting a long time for Gangs of New York to come to the dollar theatre so that I can see it a second time. Ahhh, movie are simply fabulous!

If I wanted, I could buy a blogger sweatshirt. Oh boy! Wouldn't that make me a nerdier girl!
I was fine. I was not at all tempted by the Newman-O's in my kitchen cabinet . . . until of course, I read Lisa's blog regarding eating Oreos. Then I just couldn't resist them. Damn.
You may notice that I haven't updated lately. To tell you the truth, not much is happening here. I email back and forth about my lease, I go to the gym, I do the laundry, I make eye appts and massage appts (OK, don't think that my life is that luxurious -- the appts is plural because they are appts for Mike and I AND they were our Valtentine's Day presents to each other ) and I look for movers. This last deal is proving to be unsuccessful. Do you know that Ryder sold their one way moving business? How dare they! Plus, if you have ever seen one of those nice looking trucks with the Enterprise label that says that you can rent that truck, don't get excited. You can't rent that truck. It's only for company moves. Bastards. In the meantime, I've also been reading some Greek and some Joe Roach. Today I went to the Used Book Store and picked up about ten books for $23. Not
bad, ay?
I know what you are thinking. This girl is lucky that she's not working. Well, I would rather be working right now to be honest. But the difficulty is that I have class on Monday and Thursday. I'm going away for a week and a half in July. I have some dates where I'm working at Baker Donelson. And I'll be leaving in August for Cornell. This combination of factors seems to prevent the possibility of even getting a temp job.
Oh, well, I must get back to reading. Oh, if only there was a beach around here or a lake not contaminated with nuclear waste!!! I would be so fantastically happy to read by the beach or the uncontaminated lake!!
The sign at the Broadway Baptist Church says:

What happened to all the fire and brimstone? I guess it's better this way.

Monkey pox. Does anyone else think that this disease sounds oddly similar to DEAD ALIVE? I mean a rat bites a monkey and then humans get the disease v. a rat bites a prairie dog, people get the disease and it's called monkey pox? Hmmmmmmm......sounds similar to me. So watch out kids, because soon everyone is going to be a zombie.
Speaking of monkey pox. I still have the remnants of my NOT SARS flu. I feel like I could blow my nose forever. It's not that I've had a nose running necessarily, it's just that once I start blowing I can't stop because well, never mind, but you get the idea. I'm also really tired. But that seems to be going away a bit and may be that indicates that the illnesess is waning.
In other news, I started my Greek class yesterday. It should be pretty challenging -- especially since I missed the first three classes! But at least I'm just auditing.
"I kick ass for the Lord!" - priest from DEAD ALIVE, yes I've used this quote before but it's without a doubt the best one in the film

Blech. I was ill the whole weekend. In fact, I'm still ill, but I'm at least feeling better than I was yesterday and Friday. Those were both awful days. Mike and I managed to accomplish 5 movies this weekend as a restul of our sicknesses -- well, actually he's mostly better so I guess it's mostly my sickness. We watched Lord of the Rings: Fellowship, Shrek, Monsters Inc., Get Shorty and today we went to A Mighty Wind. Sadly I found A Mighty Wind a bit formulaic. It wasn't as good as Best in Show or Waiting for Guffman or Spinal Tap. Neverthless, it was still entertaining.
Hmm...almost two months until I move to Ithaca. In the meantime I have to measure all my furniture and think about how the hell we're going to get it all up there. I tried asking for bids via the internet, but that didn't work too well as only three companies out of like eighteen got back to me. I guess I'll have to figure things out the old fashioned way.
Oh, and by the way, I've got the Magic Stick.

Mike came home with a horrible fever yesterday, which I thankfully, haven not yet been subjected to. And in fct, I think that I slept it out. I was supposed to go into Baker Donelson today, but called in sick, not because I felt too sick to go in, but because I would have been filling in for perhaps the oldest lady at the firm and I figured I could cause a lot of damage if I gave her whatever it is that Mike gave me. So instead I slept and slept -- now I feel a bit better and I'm fawning over items in a J. Crew catalogue. But I'm not fawning over Turtle print pants. I wonder who wears such a thing -- I'm not necessarily against them, but I'm interested to see how they might look on someone. In the menatime, I'm pretty sure that they aren't for me. The shorts I can understand -- the pants I'm just not sure about.

Ugh. I'm sick but I don't have SARS. I have a sore throat, but thankfully it's much better today when cmpared with yesterday. I went to bed at 10:30 last night and didn't wake up until 9:00. I think I may go back to bed after this cup of throat tea. In the meantime I'm going to order books for the class I'm supposed to be auditing on Amazon.

I cleaned my bathroom today. I feel very tilexy, but at least all that white tile is sparkling. I was planning on washing the kitchen floor -- toothbrush between the tiles and everything, but that may be too much Tilex for one day. Then again there's still time. Damn homey.
So far this week my day of work is tomorrow. I have the rest of the week to do whatever I want. Of course, much of this will involve figuring out how we're going to move from TN to NY. Joy. On the exciting side, I believe tht we will be buying a new couch when we move. Perhaps we'll get it from Macy's. Any suggestions Ms. Crowley?

The hunt is over. I hope.
I've given up on buying a house in Ithaca without Mr. Guillorn and I living there first. It just doesn't work in a market where houses go within days and even hours! There really isn't a chance to see the house when you are in Knoxville and not in the town they are located in. So for the meantime we will be renters. And if all goes well, we will be renting an apartment in a building that was planned as an opulent palace. Then the Depression came and they stopped building. Later someone finished the building -- leaving out much of the opulence intended. Because of this there are paintings painted into the walls, frames and all attached -- framed murals I guess when people just enter. But then as people go down the hall, it's just the frame that's painted, or the frame is there but it's painted to match the wall. At any rate, I loved the building when I saw it and I'm pretty sure Mike will love it too. It has one of those old elevators -- like the one that people aren't allowed to use in libraries -- where you pull across a metal thing instead of closing a door! Delicious! I hope you all visit.

It's 12:17 in the morning on Wed/Thu and where am I? The Cornell Nanofabrication Facility.
Ah, but it is good to see the husband. Very good.
Anyway, mostly I've just been assisting in the showering of Becky and working out with Andrew here and there. But I forgot my blog's birthday. Happy birthday blog. It was sometime last week I think.

What the hell are they thinking?
I must have tried on a million dresses. A billion. A trillion. And none of them fit. Why? Well, designers seem to have neglected to insert that age-old thing called the "zipper" in the dress. It's like, they design a dress and then they think "ahhh, this one doesn't need a zipper." Well, hello? If the dress fits over my shoulders and boobs without a zipper then it's going to be too big in the waist. I mean, isn't that common sense? Shoulders and boobs are often bigger than the waist on women. THAT'S WHY WE NEED ZIPPERS.
Jesus, at this point I'd even settle for buttons or laces.

Needless to say, I chose to sleep in instead of get up early and go to the gym. On the good side, I just heard taht the Henson children bought the muppets back from the Germans. Fantastic!
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Who says that every wish,
Would be hard and answered
When wish forms the morning star;
Somebody thought of that,
And someon believes it,
Look what it's done so far,
What all amazing
that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Some day we'll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The Lovers, the Dreamers and me.

I just made myself a cookies & cream protein shake and it is delicious. I think that for the first time, I actually managed to get all the powder to mix into the soy milk. What an accomplishment.
With Mike being away, I have a strange desire to watch yet another Gyllenhaal movie, but alas, it is 8 minustes before the video store closes and I wouldn't make it there in time. Plus, I'm planning to get up super early tomorrow. Notice that I say super-early and that I don't mention a time. That's because it's so early that it hurts for a Saturday. I want to go to the gym BEFORE I get my hair cut, because no one wants to mess up their hair on the one day when it actually looks good, right?
Oops. Today I accidentally called some sort of sex line from work. I was calling several truck companies to request employment records and I accidentally dialed a 1-800 number wrong. I just hope it wasn't a 900 number that I dialed! At any rate, I told the office manager and she was a-ok with it. But if it gets around the law firm, boy am I going to be the butt of many jokes.

My last final was on Monday. That means I'm done! Done of course until next semester or until I audit a Greek class this summer --- certainly a possibility. I'm looking forward to Saturday, when I get more highlights, cut off tons of hair and then fly home to MA. Ahh...it will be nice to be in New England. It will also be nice to have a couple weeks without classes and work. Sadly, I won't be with Mike those two weeks. Damn, that's tough on a newlywed and I am still a newlywed, damnit. On the good side, I think that I will see the X-Men sequel with my Dad. I think it might end up being an Empire-like sequel, which would be good. A little more emotional, but still action packed and no longer setting up the story.
Alrightie well, since I'm at work, I should probably stop blogging -- even though I'm a bit bored right now! If only the work from last week could have been spread out to this week, I would be all set.

My goodness this week was busy at the law firm. The secretary I was filling in for left me approximately three weeks -- well at least two and a half weeks of time to enter for a bankruptcy paralegal -- um, that means that there are around 25 entries per day if not more than that. And I wasn't working full time!!!!!!!! It was a nightmare trying to get all that done along with everything else that was going on. Ugh, I was not appreciative of the fact that she left me that much time to do the week of the deadline.
In other mundane things, I had a terrible stomach ache Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, and I was very happy when that went away Friday morning. I think that it was related to my "dot" as Ellen Cherry Charles likes to call it in Skinny Legs and All. Whatever it was it was not enjoyable.
What was enjoyable was that this week was my last week of classes. I had my last Spanish exam and then on Monday I have a final in Ancient Greek. I suppose I should start studying for that now, but I'm feeling a little bit lazy today -- and hey, that's OK right? It's Saturday.

This weekend I mostly slept a lot to make up for getting up wayyyyyy too early during the week. Anytime before 7 is a killer for Ms. Megan and anytime before six -- ugh, I'd rather go to bed at that time. Actually, that's not entirely true. When I was getting my master's there were several times when I woke up at 5 to read for my 8 o'clock class and things weren't so bad. I guess it's just getting up that early to go to the doctor, then class thene the law firm that's killer. Especially when I'm sitting in the reception area by my lonesome and the phone's just aren't ringing.
Aside from sleep it was a Gyllenhaal weekend for Mr. Guillorn and me. I'm amazed at my ability to spell Gyllen haal. What a fabulous last name. First we saw Donnie Darko. What a strange movie. Many people have advised me as to how fantastic it is. I don't know that I found it fantastic like fantastic in the realm of The Usual Suspects, but it was good nonetheless -- and Jake was excellent. Unfortunately or fortunately, the movie did freak me out a little bit and I was trying to think of something nice before I went to sleep. So of course, I try thinking of bunnies. OK, needless to say that didn't work and I don't think I ended up getting much sleep that night.
Last night we saw Secretary. I actually think that I enjoyed this film more than Donnie Darko. James Spader is so weird (in a good way, I think) and Maggie is so right-on with the character!
At any rate, I recommend both films to those of you who haven't already seen them.
Aside from the excitement of film-viewing, I've mostly been sleeping, studying and cleaning this weekend. Mr. Guillorn and I also went out to dinner with two of the people selling equipment to and setting it up at ORNL. that was a bit of a strange but enjoyable experience. One of the guys is "intense" as Mike puts it -- I'm not sure I would put it that way, but it's difficult to describe him otherwise -- he's sort of like the type of guy who seems to be overcompensating or "fake" in a way, but the strange thing is that he's not, he really is just that way. OK, so nevermind, I can't explain it. He's a nice guy and he took us out to dinner.
I guess that about sums it up.

I had to skip out on a free massage this week because the massage man came to the law firm the same day that I had my stitches out. Damn! What a shame. I was able to participate in the nachos though. And i have a feeling that there will be a pizza party soon, plus some free cake on the second week in May. mmmmmmmhmmmmmmmm.

On NPR today -- "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me!!!" to be exact -- they mentioned that there's a plan to change the license plates in Boston in order to prevent road rage. And just how do they plan to thwart Boston road rage? Smiley faces. Yes kids, they want to put smiley faces on everyone's license plate.
Personally, I would prefer little bunnies.

Visiting Cornell was a lot of fun. I stayed in the department apartment. It was right next to the theatre building in collegetown. Thus, it was very convenient to the many happy lunch places and, even better, the bottom of my building housed a restaurant called "Eat Dessert First" -- mmmmmmmm.....loving it.
I also enjoyed meeting the grad students. They're fun people and unlike grad students that I met from other schools at ASTR, they don't need to show off by talking about their work. What? You mean there is something to talk about besides work. Yes, indeed, there is.
I also met with two classics professors --one of which is director of graduate studies in the theatre program right now. Both were delightful -- one in a happy professor kind of way and the other in a disheveled formerly british professor kind of way. Incidentally, the fact that the happy prof does comedy and the disheveled prof does tragedy seems to fit their personalities exactly.
On Saturday, I saw Holly Hughes perform. I didn't agree with everything that she had to say, but she was a pretty fantastic performer nonetheless. Before the performance I hung out with a realtor -- we went around and looked at houses, but sadly, because it was Easter weekend, people were not willing to show the inside of the house.Ah well, there's a good chance that these houses will be gone by the time we're ready to buy -- if that's what we do!
In the meantime, I'll just be working at the Baker Donelson I guess. Today at BD was a bit boring. If only the phone rang more, I wouldn't be so bored. Well, tomorrow's Wednesday so perhaps things will pick up. I'm definitely going to have to bring something to occupy my time on Friday though, otherwise I don't think that I'lld make it through the afternoon awake.

My trip to San Antonio was fab. My Great Aunt Dorothy is simply fantastic! She's done so many things and she has so many stories. I was able to learn so much from her in a weekend. I think the main thing that I learned was that life truly has so much to offer, even if there are some times that are really difficult.
I also now know quite a bit more about the family history on the Leonard side now. My Mom pointed out that I could maybe get an idea of what her father was like from knowing Dorothy (he died before I was born). I heard a few stories about him -- I guess he was VP of a bank before he was a policeman.
San Antonio was also nice because of the Riverwalk there. I mean, the downtown seems a little dead for a city but then you go down a level and there is the beautiful riverwalk. Trees, restaurants, and shops all line the river. We saw fresh ducklings, young ducklings and adolescent ducklings on our boat tour. It was lovely.
What was not lovely was my flight back. Because I was delayed an hour on my first flight coming in, I had to wait six hours at the airport for the next flight to Knoxville. Blech. And most unfortunately, I carried just one carry-on and checked the other thinking that would be easier, but that meant that I carried only what I thought I would read/use during the normal flight time. I left my CD player and my Spanish book in the checked bag. :^(
Nevertheless, I returned at 11:00 to Knoxville and I fly again on Wednesday to Ithaca -- so if I don't blog for awhile after this entry, don't be surprised!
Yo -- how about those POW's being released?!? How fantastic is that?
And how about Georgie's warning to Syria. Dear God, please get this man OUT OF OFFICE in the next election!

I don't doubt that Maura's statement is true. I mean, my blog has hair ads!
But why does Lisa's have ads for furniture sliders? hmmmm....
I worked at the law firm today. It was fun...not too busy. It's much more entertaining than working at the science place. At least while I'm editing documents at the law firm, I can talk to people, have free juice or soda, eat free popcorn, eat free saltines and peanut butter, have free candy and yet get paid more. Yes, I have to be somewhat of a slave, but hey, you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. I just realized that I have no idea how to spell omelet. Crowley?
After work I auditioned for a commercial for Goody's -- a clothing chain store around here. I've never actually been in a Goody's, but boy I can say lines like "The best part of a man, that's easy, his wallet" like I've shopped at Goody's all my life (and like I haven't read a million feminist theorists who would be more than put off by this phrase).
OK now, time to study for the Spanish quiz. Hasta luego.

Yes, I realize I have not updated in awhile. I apologize.
Right now I'm listening to the KU game. Unfortunately, in order to listen to it I have to sit very still at my des, because the signal works only when I'm sitting at my desk in a certain spot. Once I get up, the game's gone and there's music.
This weekend Mike and I once again walked in a park full of dogs. We experienced yet another Spanish film -- Amores Perros. The same actor was in Y tu mama tambien. I find him quite sexy -- he was not the one who presented at the Oscars.
Also, I got rejected from Columbia today. There must be a lot of great theatre applicants out there!
Anyway, I'm goint to ffinish my dinner whil sitting as still as possible.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KU!

Ahhhhhh....today I spent time outside revising a letter for work with the scientists. I figure that it helps me think to be outside when it's in the 70's and sunny. Plus, I'm trying to lighten up my roots so that they match the highlights I had to get after the hair was dyed black. Tomorrow I'm getting the hair cut and I'm resisting temptations to get it cut short. No Megan, no. Wait till after Becky's wedding -- or at least wait until the roots are lighter.
I'm also getting really excited abouut going to San Antonio next week. Ahhh...sun, Mom, and Great Aunt Dorothy who neither of us have seen in years! We're looking forward to it.

Today was fairly uneventful -- I took my Spanish test and I have no idea how I did on it. Then I went to Greek class and spaced out much of the time. Of course, that is generally the case after a big exam. In other things I finally finished my state taxes. Oh, how I look forward to living in one state instead of three during the same year. Thankfully, there are no state taxes in Tennessee and therefore I do not have to fill out yet another form. Yes, I admit there are many disadvantages to not having state taxes -- such as paying a 10% sales tax on EVERYTHING except for groceries which are 9.25%. I believe I've mentioned this before, but I like to talk about it again and again and again. How damn ridiculous is that!!!! A tax on groceries and clothing -- a poor tax is what it is but no one here seems to care. Anyway, as horrible as the situation is, at least I don't have to figure out another state's strange process (because they're not AT ALL the same in terms of what you can claim). Anyway I will dejo de quejarme. I think it's sleep time, but I leave you with this quote of the day.

"I know. She was mine too." - Max

YEAH BABY! YEAH BABY YEAH!!!! KANSAS BEAT ARIZONA'S ASS AND IS GOING TO THE FINAL FUCKING FOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WWOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!
More Almodovar this weekend. We watched "Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down" -- as always an interesting movei. Ahhh...with Antonio Banderas también. I feel that the the watching of this movie helped me study for the Spanish Exam I have on Monday. I desperately need to ace this exam. Desperately. So I am currently making a long study sheet. Then I will be doing exercises online, then on a practice sheet -- then reviewing all my quizzes and the last Exam. Tengo que saber todo. Perhaps I should also watch another Almodovar film.
In other things, I'm trying to decide what to do about my job. There really isn't that much for me to do and I'm going to need more work once the summer comes around. Do I go to a temp agency? Do I try to work it with some law firms on my own? What happens? No sé. It's a bit difficult because I'm going to be in MA/NY at least twice this summer -- but for how long? Anyway, I should stop wondering about mi futuro y start studying for the Exam.
Hasta luego.

OK, if you haven't seen The Onion yet, you really should take a look at it. This week's issue is simply hilarious!
In other things, I'm working at the law firm tomorrow and Friday. And I worked at a different law firm this week on Monday and Wednesday. I'm finding that both these positions are much more fun than the one at UT. This mostly has to do with the fact that: (1) I see people (not an occurrence at UT because I'm in an office in another bulding) and (2) the people I do see like me and don't try to take portions of my job away. Wow! How exciting -- imagine that. OK, I have to admit that there are other benefits. When I'm at Baker Donelson especially, I spend quite a bit of time simply hanging out and talking to people. Every once in awhile I answer the phone or type a document, but for the most part, I make hot cocoa and popcorn and chat it up. Ahhhh...I could use a day like that tomorrow. Cross your fingers for me.

P.S. I didn't get to watch the Oscars last night because I had so much silly homework! I was really looking forward to spending a good hour doing cardio at the gym in order to watch the Oscars. I guess I will have to see The Pianist, but I already must say that I am disappointed that DDL did not win best actor. His performance in Gangs of New York was fucking phenomenal!
Well, this weekend went well. My parents and I gave Mike a nice mirror for his birthday. He was very pleased. Then the two of us drove to Asheville, NC and had dinner at our favorite restaurant so far in the South -- The Laughing Seed Cafe. MMMMMM. Delicious! Next we went to the movies -- we saw Almodovar's "Hable con Ella." Fue fantastico! Then we drove back through the mountains super late at night.
I also got into Tufts on Saturday. But don't get your hopes up kids, they didn't give me full funding. And sadly, I won't be able to go unless they give me full funding. I got a half tuition scholarship, but that's no good for a girl who would have to move from TN to MA and who already has bunches of school loans. Plus, who gets a free master's and not a free Ph.D.? On the good side, if someone who was offered a teaching assistantship says "nay" to Tufts then there is a good chance that I will get it. Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to work it so that I say, "Sorry, but I won't go without full funding" in a nice way -- I think I'll have to call a prof on that one. Keep your fingers crossed for Cornell and Columbia!

We're at war. Or rather as Chris Rock recently said on David Letterman -- we're jumping Iraq, not fighting them. It's quite scary. Even my conservative friends seem to think that Bush fucked up pretty badly on this one. So where is this 70-80% approval coming from? And what does it exactly mean to approve of the war? I support the troops, but I do wish we were not at war right now. Is that approval? Everything now seems so confusing. I guess one can just hope that we have an administration turnover in the next election.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Ripper: "Mandrake, do you recall what Clemenson once said about war?"
Mandrake: "No, I don't think I do sir, no."
Ripper: "He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that -- 50 years ago -- he mayy have been right. But today war is too important to be left to the politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."

I dreamed last night that Mike brought home a little doggie named Bonnie (we didn't name her). He adopted her, and she was part Golden Retriever and part Chow. I loved her a lot. But sadly, she doesn't exist -- and we can't get a dog righty now because we don't live in a doggie apartment.
The mailbox contained junk, junk and more junk today. I made the executive decision not to go into work because well, because I don't have anything to do. Plus it's Saint Patrick's Day -- the wonderful holiday of my heritage. I celebrated by driving Mike to the airport (sadness), dropping off a resume and headshot at the local talent agency, and going shopping at the outlet stores. Oh boy did I go crazy at the Banana Republic outlet. but how could I help it? Their winter stuff was on sale ($7 for long sleeve shirts), and their summer stuff was so nice and reasonably priced and I needed a new coat so....
In other exciting Knoxville Knews, I am working at Baker Donelson on Wednesday. That should be fun stuff. I'm working for the fun lawyers (though they put out a lot of work). But having a lot to do for a change should be good.
hmmm...to top the night off I listened to the Pres's speech. Um...excuse me Pres. Bush -- did you forget to check your email? Did you not notice that I asked you not to go to war without the full consent of the UN? Guess you must have missed that one.

OOOOO. Today I got new jeans and a polo from J. Crew in the mail. I also got a package from Jocelyn. I sent her some of my panties for an art installation. So she sent me pics of everyone's panties from the installation along with their answered questionnaires. It was interesting because so many women sent in panties and then did not put their names on their questionnaires. They're just your undies folks. Well, I guess I shouldn't judge. But I do think that overall, women could be more open about their panties.
In other mail things, Mike and I received our mileage statements from Delta -- apparently there was some other stuff, but you know, I was out and Mike got the mail.
I also talked to Andrew tonight. That was a lot of fun. He's in San Diego right now filming women having babies. So far he's witnessed numerous C-Sections and some live births as well. Kind of willd, I think. Terrence is also in San Diego and he apparently asked Andrew if I was pregnant?!? He had heard that from somewhere and Andrew was like, nooooooooooo -- at least I don't think so. Which I'm not...at least as far as I know. But my theory on the whole rumor is that someone told someone else that Andrew was working on Maternity Ward and that I got married. Then that somehow turned into Megan is pregnant. Logical? Right?

I decided to change the name of the blog -- although I liked the reference to Ubu Roi, I felt it did not leave me with a positive outlook. This, on the other hand (Ok, the fact that I wrote "on the other hand" there is Anc. Greek seeping into my writing), provides me with life as it is. I must admit that the title itself is not origininal. It's something that Mike's fellow employees used when he first came down here (makes a bit more sense since he is Connecticut Yankee).

French goods face U.S. backlash
Sofitel hotels, fearful of anti-French sentiment, take precautions; some vendors report ambivalence.
March 13, 2003: 3:33 PM EST
By Parija Bhatnagar, CNN/Money Staff Writer
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - French opposition to a war in Iraq appears to be creating a backlash against all things French in the United States.
Products decidedly French, such as wines, cheese and even French-owned hotel chains like Sofitel, have been on the receiving end of some angry American consumer sentiment lately.
Sofitel Hotel in midtown Manhattan replaced the French flag with the Stars and Stripes.
If the backlash explodes into a boycott of French products, it has the potential to affect $47 billion of bilateral trade between the United States and France.
French flags no longer are flying high and proud outside the Sofitel Hotel in midtown Manhattan. The French-owned hotel chain, part of the French hotel company Accor, whose units include U.S. motel chains Red Roof Inn and Motel 6, replaced the flags with the Stars and Stripes as a peace offering to its American guests.
Sofitel spokesman Paul Charoy said the company last week decided to remove the French flags in front of all eight of its hotels in the United States as a "precautionary" measure and replaced them with a combination of the American flag and city and state flags.
"We wanted to calm down the situation a little," Charoy said. "We were getting some severe feelings and threats directed toward the safety and security of our employees and customers."
OK, this is getting out of hand. I mean, it's just France. And hey, isn't anybody else taking notice of the plethora of anti-war posters, signs, t-shirts, graffiti here in the U.S. Oh, what am I saying -- why would anyone do that?
Hmmm...I wonder if this means that Mike won't be spending Aprill in Paris after all.

PIctures from the wedding (yes, our wedding) from Matt and Cloe -- awwwww!

an onion-like article inspired by the words of Lisa Renzi -- if you haven't read my 3/11 entry, read that first
Teenagers at Local High School Claim that French Kissing is Not Patriotic
Jeremy Velasco (17) and Lily Wash (16) have given up French kissing because they believe it does a disservice to their country. The two have been dating for over three weeks and recently made the decision not to French kiss. Jeremy says "I just can't do it anymore. It doesn't feel right after what the French are saying about America." Lily agrees, "I mean, I hear my friends talking about who they French kissed last night and it just makes me mad."
When asked what they do instead of French kiss, the couple happily replied that they "Freedom Kiss." "I mean, I know we're just in high school, but I feel it's a way to support our troops in the Gulf" says Lily. Jeremy agrees and says that the Freedom kissing trend is catching on. "It just feels better -- more American."
Another couple at Ulysses S. Grant High School just switched from French Kissing to Freedom Kissing last night and feel much better about the whole thing. Julie Sheets (15) said, "It used to make me feel dirty -- like a traitor. Now I feel great." Her boyfriend Bobby Williams (16) confided, "I can't wait to see her in her freedom bikini -- oh boy! That will be a day to remember."

It's articles like these that make me check two or three times to make sure that I'm reading CNN.com and not The Onion?!?
House cafeterias change names for 'french fries' and 'french toast'
Move reflects anger over France's stance on Iraq
WASHINGTON -- The cafeteria menus in the three House office buildings changed the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries," in a culinary rebuke of France stemming from anger over the country's refusal to support the U.S. position on Iraq.
Ditto for "french toast," which will be known as "freedom toast."
The name changes were spearheaded by two Republican lawmakers who held a news conference Tuesday to make the name changes official on the menus.
Across the country, some private restaurants have done the same.
Ummmmm....does anyone else think that these guys have way too much time on their hands?

mmmm....today I went and purchased some clothing. I have not done anything of the sort aside from b-days and x-mas since August, when I purchased a cardigan on sale at Old Navy and July, when I purchased some work out clothes at Old Navy. Oops...I forgot...I did buy a nice lacy shirt at Christmas time for Nutcracker attire, but that doesn't really count because I sold some clothing to a thrift store in Knoxville -- it evens out.
But this, this was a real shopping spree. I got two polo shirts, two black sweaters (one of which I may be returning), and one fabulous pair of light jeans -- all from J. Crew. Now, this may not seem exciting to you, but it's very exciting to me -- especially after being po in grad school for two years.
At any rate, guess what it's time for:

Mike and I saw two movies this weekend. The first was The Ring, and that scared the shit out of both of us. Mike thinks it has something to do with the sound. I think it was just freaky. Luckily I'm not having nightmares about it. The second movie that we saw was Gangs of New York. It was fantastic! It's actually the best movie I've seen in a long time (well, for the first time anyway--as you know, I've been watching Rushmore, LOR, and Dr. Strangelove). It's definitely the best movie I've seen this year (sorry 2 Towers, but you ruined Faramir's character for me). Anyway, I highly recommend it.
I decided to go home. Without the webpage, I really don't have much to do at work. So guess what it's time for?

There's all my archives yo! I guess it wasn't my fault that they were hiding...just a strange blogger occurrence.
oops, I forgot to mention that yesterday I received a postcard in the mail announcing that Jocelyn and Jeff are getting married. Yay! I'm pretty excited because the wedding is going to be December 28 next year in Hartford. That works out really well for Mr. Guillorn and me. Plus, it gives me an excuse to buy a sexy, wild, artsy winter dress next year.

What's in Megan's Mailbox?
Yes, I'm quite upset that I didn't get into Brown. It was one of my top 2 choices. And I would like to say that Brown is for bastards, but I can't, because my beloved Paige is there and that's wonderful. At any rate, I was feeling a little down today, but it was warm in Knoxville and Mike felt that it was necessary for me to get some ice cream at the yummy ice cream place. I agreed wholeheartedly and after I ate ice cream we went for a walk in the rich people park in Knoxville. There were TONS of dogs there. I mean, we felt so estranged not having a dog that we thought about borrowing one.
Then we went to the mall so that I could find a Spring coat. But they don't really seem to sell such things in Knoxville because well, there isn't much need for them. And I really don't want to buy a jean jacket even though they are "hip" this year. I want something a little wilder and a bit dressier-- we'll see what I end up with.
